Ronnie Zanella

Born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Ronnie started his musical studies very early, at the age of 5, on the piano, due to his mother being a piano teacher. Later, at the age of 10, he started violin lessons, taking both instruments concurrently until the end of his college degree. He joined a school and church orchestra at the age of 12, playing in large and chamber instrumental ensembles ever since.

After 2 years of college in Brazil, Ronnie moved to the US in 2012 to Lincoln, Nebraska, transferring his music degree to Union College, where he graduated in 2015 in piano performance. Moving to Michigan to study his master’s degree, he graduated in 2019 with a master of music degree in orchestral and choral conducting, at Andrews University. Since 2019, Ronnie has been finishing his doctoral of musical arts degree in choral conducting at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, studying under Peter Eklund and Marques Garrett. While at UNL, he also worked as a teacher assistant for the university’s choirs and undergrad conducting classes, receiving a full scholarship in the process.

Ronnie is currently an ABD student at UNL, planning to finish his DMA degree in December 2023. He is also the director of music at Westminster Presbyterian Church, in Lincoln, NE. He soon hopes to transition to an academic profession, teaching music at a college/university level.
