Naomi Brigell
Naomi Brigell (she/her), mezzo-soprano, is gaining recognition as an “expressive, athletic and strong-voiced” presence on the operatic stage. Based in Chicago, Brigell has performed extensively with opera companies in the Midwest including Des Moines Metro Opera, Dayton Opera, Chicago Opera Theater, Chicago Fringe Opera, Thompson Street Opera Company, and New Moon Opera. Favorite past roles include Hänsel, Cherubino, and Olga (Eugene Onegin).
For the 2022-23 season, Brigell joins Dayton Opera as an Artist in Residence in the fall, performing the roles of Nica in Charlie Parker’s Yardbird, Dulcamara in the touring production of The Elixir of Love, and alto soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. In the spring, Brigell joins Nashville Opera as a Mary Ragland Emerging Artist, where she will be seen on the mainstage as Edith in The Pirates of Penzance. She is an alumna of the prestigious young artist programs at Des Moines Metro Opera, Opera Saratoga and Opera Naples. Brigell’s accolades include the grand prize in the Kristin Lewis Foundation Competition, first prize in the Southern Illinois Young Artist Organization Vocal Competition, first runner-up in the Mobile Opera Madame Rose Competition, the Farwell Award with Musicians Club of Women, the Winifred and Maurice Hirsch Memorial Scholarship, and the Ellalou Dimmock Award. Naomi Brigell is a proud graduate of University of Houston and Boston University.
